Coming of Age Ceremonies

I think the coming of age ceremonies in aboriginal cultures are very different from western coming of age ceremonies. Aboriginal coming of age ceremonies are a lot more spiritual and traditional, while western ceremonies are more modern. I think aboriginal ceremonies should be continued in cultures because they are just as important as modern ceremonies.

Bud not Buddy chap.17-19

1) Eddie Brought an alto saxophone home for Bud.

2) Bud realized that he was actually sleeping in his mother's old bedroom.

3) Bud discovers some flat rocks with writing on them, just like his, in the glove compartment of Herman's Packard.

4) Mr. Calloway never visited his daughter, Angela and grandson, Bud because he never knew where the ran away to.

5) Mr. Calloway's daughter ran away because he was always very hard on her and he always expected a lot out of her. She got fed-up of all the pressure so she ran away.

6) I think Mr. Calloway had a hard time accepting Bud because Bud was claiming that Mr calloway was his father while Mr. Calloway thought that he was just some kid from the streets. I think their relationship changed after he found out that Bud was his grandson becaused he realised that they felt the same pain and had both lost the most important person in their lives.

Bud not Buddy chap.15,16

1) Bud thinks it's a girl's room because of the horse posters on the wall.

2)Herman E. Calloway is not happy to have Bud at his house. He always stays away from Bud and only talks to him in a harsh way. He wanted to send back to where he came from.

3)The Band singer says this to Herman E. Calloway. She is asking him why he wont take care of a boy who travelled all the way there in need of a home but he will take care of any stray dog he finds on the street.

4)Eddie asks Bud this question because he thinks the suitcase is too old and does not go well with what the rest of the band uses to put their things in. Eddie gives Bud his old saxophone case which he does not need anymore.

5)The band calls Bud "Sleepy Labone" because he sleeps a lot and is verry skinny.

Cultural Fact

I found it surprising that the boys had to go through pain to prove their manlyhood. They have to get wipped.

Parent Interview, Valetina

During the interview I learned that the adolescents today are much more advanced and are much less active theb adolescents a long time ago. The adolescents today are much less active as they have more technology and internet. We have more opportunities to learn about things that are going on in the world around us. It was a much safer time and Children were more free to do whatever they wanted.

FRIM

I liked being with a group of people because it helped made me less scared about all the bugs and leeches. It was fun being with friends and hanging out during the free times. I enjoyed doing the work in groups and it made me closer to some people and distanced me from others.

I didn't like being with the same people all the time in a stressful place because it made me mad at the people if they did any little thing. There was also no privacy from the boys because the tents are a little see through and the bathrooms are gross. We had to go out of our comfort zones and some people were very stressed and impatient.

My quote

He who hesitates is lost.
Proverb

I chose this quote because it matches who i am. What i interpret it as is, that if you wait for things to happen and people do things for you then you will not go anywhere in life.
